Arroyo Grande Village Holiday Events 2026: Dates and Local Guide

October 15, 2026

Arroyo Grande has two Halloweens this year, and they fall on consecutive Saturdays. On October 24 the City sets up a carnival at Elm Street Park with bounce houses, a pumpkin patch and costume contests. On October 31 the Village merchants open their doors along Branch Street for two hours of trick-or-treating. The two events have different hosts and different addresses, and they work in different ways.

December follows the same pattern from the other direction. Elegant Evening fills Branch Street on Saturday, December 5. The City's Holiday Parade and Jingle Bell Dash run down the same street the next afternoon. From late October through mid-December, each event on the calendar falls into one of two kinds, and the address usually tells you which.

The address tells you the format

Events at Elm Street Park, 1221 Ash St., are City Recreation Department programs. They have activity fees, advance registration and a set lineup. Events on Branch Street depend on the Village itself. The storefronts are the venue, the merchants or volunteer organizers are the hosts, and you just show up. The City's own Village events work the same way: the Big Ditch Market uses the Car Corral and the parade uses the street.

Here is the season, sorted by where it happens and who runs it.

October: the park Saturday, then the street Saturday

According to the City's fall events release from September 3, 2026, the Halloween Carnival runs Saturday and Sunday, October 24 and 25, from 1 to 7 p.m. The lineup is a full program: a Halloween-themed BounceTown, water walking balls, a pumpkin patch, food trucks, LED mini golf, face painting, costume contests, carnival games, a live DJ and a free Trick-or-Treat Trail. Saturday ends with a free family movie at 7 p.m. Sunday includes a free magic show at 5 p.m.

The Visit SLO CAL listing places the carnival at Elm Street Park. It also adds a haunted maze priced at $3 to $5 and lists BounceTown at $15 to $25. That listing gives the hours as 3 to 9 p.m., which conflicts with the City's 1 to 7 p.m. The City's release comes from the organizer, and advance activity registration is open at arroyogrande.org/rec, so check there if you're planning around the late afternoon.

The Village's version a week later is much shorter. The Gallery's event listing describes Halloween in the Village as "Arroyo Grande Village Merchants Trick or Treat!" on Saturday, October 31, from 4 to 6 p.m., with The Gallery at 213 E. Branch St. as the listed location. The listing shows no registration or activity fees. The event is the shops themselves, and it lasts two hours, compared with the carnival's two full afternoons.

That difference in length and setup is what lets a family do both. One weekend is a ticketed afternoon at the park. The next is a short walk along the storefronts before dark on Halloween itself.

November slows down, with two events off Branch Street

November has no Branch Street event. The City carries the month with two events.

The first is the 49th Annual Turkey Trot on Sunday, November 15, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Arroyo Grande High School track. The Arroyo Grande Lions Club sponsors it. Children from preschool through eighth grade race for turkeys, chickens and game hens awarded to the top three finishers. Registration is $5 and includes a T-shirt and post-race refreshments. You can sign up online or at the track starting at 1 p.m. After 49 years, the prizes are still live poultry, which says a lot about how long this race has run on its own small-town terms.

The second is the holiday edition of the Big Ditch Market at the Car Corral in the Village on Sunday, November 29. The fall markets on September 4 and October 2 ran from 4 to 8 p.m., with local artisans, food trucks and live music by Ryan Jenkins. The holiday market moves to 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you know the market as an evening stop after work, this one runs midday on the Sunday after Thanksgiving, and it ends three hours before the fall markets would have been getting going.

December 5 and 6 put both hosts on the same street

The first weekend of December is when the split narrows. For two days in a row, both kinds of hosts work the same few blocks.

Saturday belongs to Elegant Evening. The Christmas in the Village organizers describe it as a free event in the Historic Village with holiday shopping, local fare, live music, spirits and Christmas lighting and decor. Guests are welcome to dress in festive attire, and Santa appears as a special guest. The Gallery's listing puts it on Saturday, December 5, from 5 to 8 p.m., billed as "Christmas lights and late night shopping in Arroyo Grande!" The organizers' own page still lists the date as TBA, so treat December 5 as likely until they confirm it.

The organizers state their purpose plainly:

"Our mission is to spread joy and cheer during the Holiday season while supporting our local businesses."

Sunday, December 6, is the City's turn on Branch Street. The Holiday Parade and Jingle Bell Dash listing has children from preschool through sixth grade chasing the Grinch down Branch Street in a free race. Pre-registration is online, and same-day registration opens at 3:30 p.m. The races start at 4 p.m., and the parade starts at 5 p.m. in the Village. Visit Arroyo Grande describes the parade route down East Branch Street, with floats, marching bands, local groups and businesses.

So the same strip hosts a merchant-driven evening of late shopping, followed less than 24 hours later by a City-produced parade. Whatever decorations go up for Saturday will likely still be lit when the parade comes through on Sunday.

Santa's address is a block off Branch

Santa's regular hours are at the Historical Society's Heritage House and Gardens, 126 South Mason St.: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 to 6 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. The organizers suggest coming early in December, since rain can cancel visits. The posted date range pairs a day of the week with a date that don't match, so confirm the final week with the organizers before planning around it.

The same garden hosts Santa's Palo Mesa Pizza Party on Sunday, December 13, from 1 to 2 p.m. Donations are suggested but not required. The name will mean something to anyone who has followed the Village this year. KSBY reported that Palo Mesa Wood Fired Pizza closed its Village restaurant after a truck hit the storefront on March 2. We found no published update confirming that the storefront has reopened.

The Branch Street side changes along with its storefronts

Because the Village half of the calendar runs through its shops, it shifts whenever the shops do, and Branch Street has seen real turnover in 2026. The Tribune reported in August that Villa Cantina at 106 E. Branch St. closed after more than 10 years, and that Blast 825 Taproom was expected to take over the space. As of its September update, the Blast Brewing Co. site still listed Blast 825 Brewery at 1462 East Grand in Arroyo Grande and its taproom on Higuera Street in San Luis Obispo. It did not list a Branch Street address. We found no opening date for the Village location.

The City side has its own open question. Last year the City held a Tree Lighting & Snow event at Elm Street Park on December 14, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m. It had snow, food vendors, a s'more station, horse-drawn wagon rides, photos with Santa, and Santa lighting the tree at 6 p.m. The City's September release doesn't mention a 2026 tree lighting. The events page on Visit Arroyo Grande lists the City of Arroyo Grande Tree Lighting and Snow Event at Elm St. Park on a Sunday at 5 p.m., alongside other December 2026 listings, but the event card doesn't show a year. Sunday, December 13, 2026 would match that listing, and it's also the day of the pizza party at Heritage House and Gardens.

As of October 10, three things on this calendar still need confirming:

  1. The Elegant Evening date, which The Gallery lists as December 5 and the organizers list as TBA.
  2. The last day of Santa's 2026 hours at Heritage House and Gardens.
  3. The tree lighting date, which the City has not yet confirmed in its own 2026 materials.

If the tree lighting comes back in its 2025 form, it would be one more program at the park, a week after the parade on Branch Street.
